Inspection in standing and movement

I inspect your horses conformation and movement in relation to saddle fit and identify factors which could influence saddle fit such as uneven hooves and a-symmetries.

I watch your horse move from the front and the side, identifying differences in pro and retractions and hip height, as well as any lameness or stiffness. I use this information to start forming an idea of the type of tree and panels your horse needs and identify difficulties to account for. I also consider whether your horse is fit for a consult.

Selection of a new saddle

If it's not possible that your current saddle fits your horse, we try a range of new saddles to find the perfect solution for you and your horse.

Initial discussion

We discuss you and your horse in detail, I gather information on your horse such as age, injury history, saddle history, riding level and goals, maintenance etc. which all helps me form a picture of your horse.

Curious how a consultation flows?

Palpation

I palpate the important muscles which are influenced by the saddle to get a total picture of how your horse is feeling in their skin. This also allows me to refer through to the vet/physio if there are noticable findings.

Rider inspection

I inspect how you move through some exercises such as squats to see your preferences and a-symmetries which might impact the way your horse moves and your saddle fits.

Templates

I take templates of your horse to accurately measure the gullet width that your horse needs, as well as track their growth through templates.

Assessment of your current saddle

I open the front of the saddle (if conditions allow) and perform a safety check on your saddle. I ensure it's still symmetrical and in order to be ridden in. Thereafter I assess the fit of the saddle in relation to your horse.

Follow up

Together we plan the next steps for your current saddle or the purchase of a new one.
